Romania has secured a medal in the Under-19 mixed doubles event on Thursday at the European Youth Table Tennis Championships in Gondomar, Portugal, after Robert Istrate and Bianca Mei-Rosu qualified for the semi-finals, according to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation’s website.
The Romanian pair defeated Noah Lam (Norway) and Veronika Polakova (Czech Republic) 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-2) in the quarter-finals and will face Portugal’s Tiago Abiodun and Mariana Santa Comba on Friday for a place in the final.
In the Under-19 doubles competition, Robert Istrate and Robert Podar progressed to the men’s round of 32. In the women’s event, the pairs of Alesia Sferlea/Patricia Stoica, Andreea Baiasu/Maria Stoian, and Bianca Mei-Rosu with Maria Berzosa (Spain) also reached the round of 32.
